CO₂ Laser Rejuvenation without surgery

It’s not necessary to undergo surgery to have a younger face. Treatments like the CO₂ Laser, also known as fractional photothermolysis, are the paradigm of skin rejuvenation. A revolutionary aesthetic procedure, the result of many years of investigation.
The results bring together the current needs with the short recovery period.

The fractional CO₂ Laser is the key between the ablative systems (those that act in the deep skin layers) and the non-ablative systems (the ones that act in the superficial skin layers). It consists of the emission of thousands of tiny beams that manage to get to the deep skin layers and deposit the heat generated by the laser in the deep dermis. The surrounding tissue is healthy, and has a great regenerating and scarring ability, and the energy that gets to the deep dermis activates the fibroblasts and reshapes the collagen.
The result: a faster scarring on the surface, combined with a remodelling of the skin collagen.

This fractional CO₂ Laser, which is considered by many as the optimal treatment for photo-aged skin, as well as skin damaged by the environment. This laser features the benefits of the ablative rejuvenation systems and the non-ablative ones. It consists of the emission of a controlled light beam through a scanner that penetrates the skin in form of deep thermal pillars down to the deep dermis. These thermal pillars are microscopic areas separated by healthy surrounding tissue, which contains cells with the ability of promoting a fast scarring. The eeneergy that penetrates the deep dermis generates a local warming that reshapes the collagen in the same way the classic CO₂ Laser did, but without the side effects.

The fractional laser can be used and has spectacular results in/for:

  • Skin rejuvenation.
  • Reduction of the fine wrinkles on the lips, forehead and crow’s feet.
  • Reducing skin flaccidity.
  • Reduction of the solar ageing in face, neck, neckline and hands.
  • Reduces ageing spots.
  • Reducing skin redness.
  • Reducing acne scars.
  • Reduction of hyper-pigmentation and melasma

The great advantage is the fact that it’s a very versatile system which allows performing treatments in multiple sessions and without time off from work, or on the contrary a single treatment with a few days off work.
Tone, colour and elasticity improve. The best thing about this is that the results can be seen immediately.

A complete treatment of the face takes around 20 minutes, even though a previous preparation is necessary, this is done by applying anaesthetic cream in the area to be treated (face, hands, and neckline). The collateral effects are minimal, an inflammation can be perceived that lasts one day, and the redness from 4 to 5 days. The skin adopts a tanned tone during several days, and you can immediately return to your daily life.

Results are seen starting from the first treatment, and depending on the possibilities the patients have, it may be necessary to perform several treatments with minimal side effects or one session with the minimum time off work.

After the session, a burning sensation is perceived that lasts approximately one hour. The skin turns slightly tanned for around two days, and then changes to a pink colour. In some cases there’s a slight inflammation that disappears within two days. Starting the day after that, women can put on makeup and men can shave. During the process it’s important to hydrate the skin.
Both expression wrinkle treatment, thread lift or wrinkle fillers can be combined with the fractional laser, and the effects are enhanced.
The fractional laser is characterised by being extremely safe. Secretion, crusts or pigment problems rarely happen. The formation of a scar is extremely rare (less than 1% of the cases).

This is the information that appears in the ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastics Surgery)

Facial rejuvenation using laser

The fine lines and wrinkles are removed using an erbium CO₂ Laser, or other laser devices that rejuvenate several damaged skin layers. These procedures also reduces the lines that form around the eyes and the mouth, and they reduce facial scars and the hyper-pigmented areas.

This procedure takes approximately one hour – depending on the area to be treated. Some cases can require more than one session – six as a maximum.

Topic local anaesthesia is applied. (Cream)

Need of hospitalisation

This procedure doesn’t require the hospitalisation of the patient.

Possible side effects

Temporary swelling of the treated area, combined with a slight discomfort, lightening or darkening of the treated skin (hypo/hyper-pigmentation), sensitivity to makeup and skin care products. The skin can get a pinkish or reddish colour tone that will last for three months maximum.

The patient will able to work again in approximately two or three days, or two weeks if the treatment is stronger. Redness can take up to three months to completely vanish. The patient must avoid UV light exposure over a period of time of three to six months. The use of solar creams with protection against UVA and UVB rays is recommended.

The durability is long, but this procedure doesn’t stop the ageing process. As the skin ages, new wrinkles and expression lines could form.

Price: starting at 300€ (depends on the treatment, area, etc.) – requires a previous consultation
